What is there to back up this Noble best passer claim and how effective is it supposed to be. Dropping deep and playing mainly short and sideways passes may have its uses and looks great on the stats but it achieves little. His ability to use a range of passing to create openings is very limited. Opportunities to break quickly are often lost when he is involved as momentum is lost.

Owners demand more entertaining football... So BFS sticks with Carlton Cole who has 13 goals in three Premier League seasons as a lone striker when the opposition are down to 10 men. Couldn't make it up could you?

good points Zico...

Agreed Noble is our best passer and one of the best in the Prem...

However too many of his passes are sideways and back..

...and if only he had an extra gear...too slow to be a real top class player....

Re: West Ham v Tottenham - Official Match Thread 0-1 FT
I know most are calling for two up front but it's not as easy as that in the Premier League anymore. Yes against 10 men today BFS should have done that but 11 v 11 in a lot of games unless you have a very energetic, powerful and solid midfield four you can get overwhelmed in a three v two scenario in central midfield. So you need the personnel to do that and any midfield with Noble and Nolan isn't going to work as a 442. Kouyate and Diame as a midfield two might work in principal based on strength and work rate but does Diame do it consistently? Ok Noble missed a penalty today but he scores most of them and I still think he is our best passer and puts a shift in most games but Nolan is a liability these days so shouldn't be anywhere near the starting line up. As I said many times before without his goals he offers very little so why pick him?!!!

One thing that has bugged me for a while and it shows itself regularly on MOTD and that is for a long while now we create very little running behind. When did we last score a goal like Tottenham's today? We play a big lump up top with his back to goal that's why and don't have the runners behind and around him. 5 years ago that was Nolan's forte but not now. Downing's game isn't that he is the supplier (well on paper) so you need runners from midfield to get beyond the striker or play a different type of striker. Valencia looked like he could get behind when he came on.

So either Valencia or Sakho with a Zarate or Ravel just in behind in a 4411 or go with a 352 with wing backs, a holding midfielder and two bombing on is the way forward not this 4231 that BFS seems to persist with. To play that way you need intelligent footballers that rotate around a top quality striker and right now we don't have a top quality striker and very one dimensional players like Downing. Unless he throws caution to the wind and plays Noble as a deep lying playmaker with Kouyate beside him and say Poyet, Zarate and Valencia supporting Sakho, or Poyet, Zarate and Ravel behind Valencia. But Sam will always play Nolan so the above is irrelevant anyway!!

Feel like I've been mugged.

The team played well apart from two stupid bookings. Good to see us giving as good as we got in the playing stakes.

Could've, should've maybe. I just feel we were playing well why the need to change it, and then fuck it up.

I am missing Bleeding Claret, if he was here now he would have a new thread, asking

"Is our next game a must win?" Bless him

Cheers, about to watch it on Sky just to see how well Cresswell and Kouyate did, sounds like they both had solid games.

Chased down a lost cause showing some pace and strength to win a corner, but didn't get much else chance despite looking lively.

Had to work today so couldn't go. Surprised to see Enner on the bench, let alone getting game time. How did he do in the whole nine minutes he was on, did he get a touch?

Re: West Ham v Tottenham - Official Match Thread 0-1 FT
Despite starting with Nolan and Carltwonk Cole, I thought we played quite well and deserved at least a point.

Our possession was an improvement and actually carved open a few decent attacks.

Kouyate was the best player on the the pitch. Cresswell, bar giving the ball away that lead to Collins 2nd yellow, had a pretty solid debut.

Shame Noble fucked the penalty up as I think we would have gone on to win.
